I apologize that this note is in English, but my Italian is not up to writing it in Italian.

I have more or less been able to follow the postings concerning the choice of the Italian representative for the 1998 WAGC. To me there are two things that are clear. The first is that I have become some sort of a Bete noire for an element of the Italian go federation which I feel entitles me to contribute. The second is that the exchanges have involved a lot of personal discussion, but want desperately for some points that were never raised. What follows is questions which go to the heart of the matter and should have been asked.

• 1. When the original representative was chosen, why was a back up not chosen at the same time.???????
  This is an elementary precaution which any well run Federation does.
  
• 2. The deadline for the submission of entries was the end of March. That means that effectively the deadline for naming the Italian representative was approximately March 25, and not well into April.
  Why then was this not done ?????
  There are two possible reasons.
  
  • 1. Gross incompetence on the part of the Federal council.
  • 2. A deliberate attempt to create an emergency situation.
• 3. When the Probi Viri did their investigation, were they told that the actual time given before the place would be lost was 6 days????
  Again there are two possibilities.
  
  • 1. If they were, why wasn't it mentioned in their report??????
  • If they knew about it and didn't mention it they should not be called Probi Viri, and it is clear that they were trying to whitewash the Federal Council.
  • 2. If they were not told about it, and only found out when I put it on the web, why aren't they protesting loud and clear that they were lied to???????
  An outside observer can only come to one conclusion. The whole affair stinks.
